The Franklin Half Dollar was minted from 1948 - 1963. The obverse of the coin features Benjamin Franklin and the reverse of the coin depicts the Liberty Bell. A small eagle was placed to the right of the bell to fulfill the legal requirement that all Half Dollars have an eagle on the reverse of the coin. These coins were minted at the Denver, Philadelphia and San Francisco mints. Each Franklin Half Dollar contains .36169 troy ounces of silver. The composite of the coin is 90% silver and 10% copper.

The Franklin Silver Half Dollar was made in commemoration of one of U.S. history's favorite figures, Benj. Franklin. The Benjamin Franklin Half Dollar coin was only made for a short, 15-year run from 1948 to 1963. The composition of Silver Franklin Half Dollars is 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. The obverse side depicts a shoulders-and-up bust of Franklin while the reverse features a likeness of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. The coin is alternatively known as the Liberty Bell or the Franklin Half. They were produced in San Francisco (S), Denver (D) and Philadelphia. Philly coins bear no mint mark.
