The $10 Liberty Head gold coin was minted between 1838 and 1907 and features the bust of Lady Liberty surrounded by 13 stars signifying the 13 original colonies. On the reverse is the heraldic eagle with denomination and date, and surrounded by the words "United States of America." The $10 Liberty Head gold coin was designed by Christian Gobrecht from a portrait of Venus, has reeded edges, measures 27 millimeters in diameter, and has a composition of .900 gold and .100 copper. The coin contains .48375 oz. of pure gold. The $10 Liberty gold coin was official currency until 1933 when gold coins were removed from circulation by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The $10 Liberty is the first to also be known as an Eagle.
The St. Gaudens is a twenty-dollar gold coin, or Double Eagle, produced by the United States Mint from 1907-1933. The St. Gaudens is named after its designer, the sculptor Augustus St. Gaudens, who designed the obverse and reverse. St. Gaudens" mark appears on the obverse of the coin under the date.
