The Denver mint struck 288,015,744 of these first-year dollars — the most of any 1979 mint — so circulated pieces are worth $1–$2, uncirculated examples $3–$10, and gems $15–$26 (PCGS Price Guide, USA Coin Book). PCGS estimates fewer than 500 exist in MS67, so top-grade certified coins are the exception to the rule.

One caution: the famous 1979 “Wide Rim / Near Date” variety worth $10–$1,500 is a Philadelphia coin only — a wide rim on a D coin is normal, not a premium.
