Authentication matters more here than almost any Lincoln: common fakes include a “D” added to a 1914 Philadelphia cent and 1944-D cents with the first 4 re-cut into a 1. A genuine 1914-D has no VDB initials at Lincoln's shoulder — if you see VDB, it's an altered 1944-D. For a coin at this price level, certification is worth it.
