The 2025 American Innovation Dollar - Arkansas from the Denver Mint is the first Innovation Dollar release for 2025. The reverse (tails side) of the coin features Raye Montague (1935–2018), an African-American Engineer from Little Rock Arkansas who revolutionized ship designing for the US Navy.
Why was Raye Montague special? She designed the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate using early and, by today's standard's, primitive computer design software. Raye Montague began working for the Navy as a typist but quickly demonstrated her technical acumen and rose to become a computer systems engineer. She is also credited with being the first person to design a Navy ship using computer software in an expedited manner. This approach was able to transform a multi-year process to just days. This approach would prove to be essential during the Cold War when expedited ship production was in high demand from the US Navy.
