A circulated 2005-D Kansas quarter is worth face value. Uncirculated, most Mint State coins retail for under $7 and MS67 examples trade for $10â$50; MS68 is the finest grade PCGS has recorded for the issue, with one bringing $288 at auction. The famous Kansas errors â "In God We Rust" and the humpback bison â are associated with the Philadelphia strikes, so the Denver coin is collected on its own merits: an even 300,000,000 mintage, the largest circulation run of any 2005 state quarter design from either mint.
To confirm your coin, look at the obverse: the mint mark sits just right of Washington's ponytail, and "D" means Denver. The reverse, designed by Norman E. Nemeth, shows a bison standing before sunflowers â two enduring symbols of the 34th state, admitted in 1861. An "S" coin is a San Francisco proof, and 90% silver 2005-S proof versions exist as well.
